To create a natural, long-lasting inward-curled style using a flat iron, follow these steps:
Preparation
Dry your hair: Ensure your hair is completely dry; using styling tools on wet hair can cause damage.
Detangle and section: Comb your hair until smooth. Divide it into upper and lower layers (or left, middle, and right sections), clip the top layer out of the way, and start with the bottom layer.
Apply heat protectant (optional):** Evenly apply a heat protectant spray or serum to the ends of your hair to minimize heat damage.
Styling Steps
Preheat the flat iron
Adjust the temperature to the appropriate setting (150°C–160°C for fine or soft hair; around 180°C for thick or coarse hair).
Select a section of hair
Take a small strand of hair (about 3–5 cm wide and not too thick) and comb it smooth.
Glide downwards
Clamp the flat iron onto the root or mid-section of the strand and glide it steadily downwards until you are about 3–5 cm from the ends.
Rotate your wrist inwards (Crucial Step)
When you reach the ends, rotate your wrist inwards (towards your face or neck) by 90° to 180°.
Maintain the angle of the iron and gently glide it downwards, following the curve.
Note: Keep the movement fluid; do not hold the iron on the ends for more than 2 seconds to avoid leaving an awkward crease.
Set the curl
The freshly styled hair will be hot; cup the curled ends in your palm for 2–3 seconds and let them cool before releasing. This helps the inward curl last longer and look more natural.
Complete by section
Once you finish the bottom layer, release the top layer and repeat the process.
Finishing Tips
Soften the look:After styling, use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently tousle the ends, allowing the curls to blend more naturally.
Set the style: Lightly mist with hairspray from a distance of about 20 cm. Styling the bangs: If you have curtain bangs or straight-across bangs, use a flat iron to clamp the hair and gently glide it upwards and backwards to create an arc, adding volume and a soft, airy look.
